If you plan to rent some ATVs for your next trip, here are some suggestions to help you make your ride safer for you and those around you.

DOT-Compliant Gear

The Minnesota Department of Transportation lists guidelines for wearing proper ATV gear every time you take the vehicle out for a ride. What key items are encouraged? Helmets, gloves, goggles, long sleeve shirts, long pants (no shorts), and over-the-ankle boots. The proper attire will protect your skin and bones, as well as your head, in the event of an accident. It will also protect you if you are riding through thick brush in heavily wooded areas. We can give you some pointers on our favorite ATV riding gear.

Avoid Paved Roads

ATVs are built for off-road adventures. This is especially true for the tires. Therefore, you should stay off of paved roads when operating a vehicle. Since your ATV moves slower than most traffic, you run the risk of getting hit by a passing car if you are going around a curve or up a hill. Therefore, you should only ride on a paved road if your crossing to the other side or in areas that are permitted by law or designated specifically for ATVs.

Never Ride Under the Influence

We do not allow any of our customers to operate an ATV under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Your senses and motor skills are vital when traveling through rough terrain on the hillside, in the woods, through a field, or close to water. Alcohol can impair your judgment and hinder your ability to act quickly in hazardous situations. You are putting both yourself and your co-riders at risk by drinking.

Single-Rider ATVs

We provide both single and  double rider ATVs for our customers. If you choose to rent a single-rider vehicle, then you should never add a second passenger. Doing so puts you at risk of a wide range of dangers. Too much weight on top of the ATV can cause it to tip over in sharp turns. Your inability to sit down with two riders can also affect your performance as you drive through a trail. If you want multiple riders on your ATV, then it’s best to rent one of our larger models to accommodate both passengers.
